Jan Zielinski was born and died in Poland. The exact dates and locations have not
yet been determined. On November 7, 1825, he married Elizabeth Pawlowski in
Portschweiten, Poland. Birth information on Elizabeth has
not yet been found, but she died in Wilczewo, Poland on January 14, 1868 at
the age of 70. She was buried in Pestlin, Poland on the 17th.
The birth records for 6 children have been found in Poland, with all being
born in the village of Portschweiten. Johann was born in 1826, Anna in 1829,
Anton in 1831, Michael in 1834, Marianna in 1837, and Anne in 1839. We know that
Michael and Marianna both married in Poland and immigrated with their families
to the United States, Marianna being first in 1874. I have been unable to find
any additional information on Johann, Anna, Anton, or Anne.
One thing that is certain, Michael and Marianna and their families settled
in Menasha, Wisconsin, where they would spend the rest of their days. Both are buried in St. John's Cemetery in Menasha - a long way from their
origins!
