Pomorskie (Pomeranian) Voivodeship

since 1999

This area of Poland, which was a part of Prussia for many years, was home to our Zielinski and Lewandowski ancestors
before they emigrated to the USA. The borders and names have changed many, many times over the years. Today it is
known as Pomorskie Voivodeship in Polish, or Pomeranian Province in English. Pomorskie Voivodeship was established by
an act of the Polish Legislature on January 1, 1999. It is currently comprised of 20 Powiats (Counties).

Pomorskie Map

Sztum Powiat is the Powiat our ancestors came from. Below you can see that Sztum Powiat is further broken down into 5
gminas (communities). The villages of our Zielinski and Lewandowski ancestors are annotated on the map with the current
name followed by the historical name in parentheses.
